The relation between segment and shard?

in the coordinator console, i see a segment contain a lot of shards. i think segment should a big file, the shard is???

You would want to make sure that the segment size falls between 150MB to 700MB in size. This matters a lot for query perf.

shards are segments with partition numbers. Each time chunk is partitioned, and the partition number is at the end of the segment identifier (except partition 0 is not included). You can see the segment identifiers in the coordinator console by clicking on the time chunk on the left to open the shard list.
